Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) has one main terminal, with METRO buses and hotel shuttles using the arrivals-level ground-transport area. IAH is a separate Houston airport and can't be reached by an HOU terminal shuttle.
Where to start
Check the airport code before selecting a bus. At HOU, the airport sends METRO public-bus passengers to Curb Zone 3 outside baggage claim on the arrivals level. Hotel courtesy shuttles also use Zone 3, while off-airport parking may use Zones 3 or 4. Read the bus operator and route sign, not only the curb-zone number.
How the movement works
Houston Airports describes local METRO Bus 40 from HOU toward downtown and also a separate Downtown Direct service. Its page describes an HOU-to-IAH journey by connecting downtown to a second bus, not a direct interterminal ride. The posted transit estimate, fare and service description can change with route revisions. Verify the exact current schedule on METRO before starting, especially if the next flight leaves IAH on another ticket.
| Decision | What the source describes |
|---|---|
| HOU METRO boarding | Curb Zone 3 outside arrivals/baggage claim |
| Hotel courtesy shuttle | Zone 3; check the hotel vehicle |
| HOU to IAH | Separate airport journey via city transport, not a terminal shuttle |
Before you rely on this route
The airport’s traveler guide says HOU has a single main terminal with central and west concourses. That makes an internal concourse change different from the HOU-to-IAH city journey. A bus stop outside baggage claim is in the public area; international arrival processing, bag collection and another airline’s check-in may come first. If your destination is a hotel, ask that property which courtesy vehicle and pickup location it actually uses.
Check your operating flight and the airport’s current notice before you go. A short ride or a frequent bus won’t tell you whether you have enough time for the whole connection.
Common questions
Are HOU and IAH different terminals?
No. They are separate airports in the Houston area.
Can I use a hotel bus to reach the city bus route?
Don't assume so. The services share a general curb zone but have different operators and destinations.
